About Us

Colin and Genine of Kirsop Farm have been farming together since 1996 — about 30 years now.

Kirsop Farm is known for a lot more than vegetables: Colin grows a few acres of grain and mills it into flour and rolled oats, and their pastured organic chickens are processed on-site into meat, bone broth, stock, and even jars of chicken fat. Genine's marigolds are sold as garlands and blooms, and their sweet carrots and sturdy kale have earned particular praise. The farm also keeps a flock of sheep for meat, wool, and tallow for soap-making. Most of their business happens at two year-round farmers markets in Seattle, where they're also proud partners in Growing for Good — a program with Seattle Neighborhood Farmers Markets, PCC, and Harvest Against Hunger that connects farms directly with food banks, funded by everyday shoppers at PCC checkout.

Practices

Working with the Food Hub let Colin and Genine shift toward planting larger amounts of fewer crops for the Harvest Box program, instead of growing everything needed to stock their own CSA as they once did. They're aiming to keep narrowing their crop list to grow more of fewer things, and grow them even more efficiently.

Kirsop Farm is certified organic by the California Certified Organic Farms, in accordance with the USDA Organic standards. They are committed to proper crop rotations including animals, pasture, grazing, grain crops, cover crops, and fallow.
